Burden of Being

February 23rd, 2010 § 1 Comment

Or how one does not need to reach too far deep within to feel that existentialist disgust (dégoût) for existence without meaning. Enjoy this poem rife with ire and irony.

Stripped of everything
all adjectives
all descriptives
all additives

I feel the burden of being
being unbearable
being unbeatable

imputed being
assigned being
enforced being

burden of being
that I am
my being
I am
am

l’âme
le dégoût
disgust

pure existence
unbearable strain
for contingent me

without adjectives
to say what I am
why I am
who I am
whose I am

Take this burden of being
delightful unbeing
that cannot be
for I cannot but be
however contingent
I may be

Mirror-less but mindful
Silenced but attentive
all too aware of my existence
confined to time and space

This is my burden of being
